Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship’s marquee race returns for its 26th year next summer, furthering the organization’s mission to build sustainable, recreation-based communities through world-class events. The Downieville Classic Mountain Bike Festival and All Mountain World Championships, presented by Santa Cruz Bicycles, will take place between July 11 and 14, 2024, with a full weekend of festivities on tap from Thursday to Sunday.
The Downieville Classic is organized by Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship in partnership with event organizers Breakaway Promotions. The race is a fundraiser for SBTS, with proceeds benefiting SBTS’ Downieville-based Trail Crew and the continual maintenance of the Downieville Trail Network—work SBTS crews have been doing for 30 years. The Classic is an important economic driver for the town of Downieville, which relies on the annual influx of racers and festival goers to boost summertime business.
Bolstered by the Classic and the famous Downieville Trail Network showcased by the race, the one-time Gold Rush town has become a model for reinvention through recreation. Its success has helped inform SBTS’ Connected Communities project, which aims to stimulate the economies of rural Lost Sierra communities through outdoor recreation by linking 15 mountain towns with a multi-use singletrack trail.
