American Trails Grant Awarded to SBTS in Support of our Mt. Hough Work

American Trails GrantAmerican Trails is supporting our work on Mt. Hough this season through a $9,681 grant from the Trails Capacity Program, which is funded by the Bronco Wild Fund, a Ford Motor Company program dedicated to connecting people to the outdoors, responsibly. This grant will ensure that the nearly 80-mile multi-use Mt. Hough trail network remains maintained throughout the season, a task that will fall solely on the SBTS Pro Trail Crew this season in light of the federal budget and staffing cuts that have drastically reduced the number of Forest Service personnel working on the Plumas National Forest.

Bronco Wild FundSpecifically, the American Trails grant will fund 12 miles of continued maintenance required due to the lasting impacts of 2021’s one-million-acre Dixie Fire, including erosion reduction, trail drainage, and trail stream crossing improvements. The funding from this grant directly pays for trail crew time on maintenance in the Mt. Hough OHV system, providing essential stewardship training and hands-on experience for the crew as they work to maintain and improve the trails.
