SBTS Trail Builder Curriculum-

The maintenance and restoration of our local trails is an on-going and vital undertaking, as our community depends on every trail being enjoyable and sustainable. Trail work that was historically accomplished by Forest Service trail crews, now rests on the shoulders of volunteers and a locally hired, professional trail crew organized by the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (SBTS).

In order to evolve our trail work programs in the Tahoe and Plumas National Forests, SBTS has developed this Trail Builder Curriculum, utilizing our organization’s expertise and experience, along with information collected from the Pacific Crest Trail Association.

The Trail Builder Curriculum is designed to train SBTS staff members, perspective SBTS staff members, State and Federal agency staff, and volunteers who want to establish expertise in the following skill sets: trail building and restoration techniques, use and maintenance of equipment, safety and risk management, project planning, leading volunteer crews and documenting project performance.

BACKGROUND- The development of the Trail Builder Curriculum is funded through a grant from REI.
