Mountain Epic at Lakes Basin Campground
Join SBTS on September 8-9th in celebration of our Fall Epic Weekend, where all the food and beer is covered for our beloved SBTS Members! The weekend festivities include: sleeping under the stars, bicycle riding on the area’s finest trails, hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail, swimming in alpine lakes, fishing mountain streams and one of our famous prize drawings!
We will be camping at Lakes Basin Campround and have sites reserved for participants. Come on up and enjoy Fall in the Sierra.
SPECIAL SUPPORTED RIDE/RUN SEPTEMBER 8th
On September 8th, we have a special treat for everyone (non-members included). We'll be offering a supported version (2 aid stations) of our soon to be legendary Lost Sierra Endurance Run racecourse. In total, the course is 32 miles with 6,500' of elevation gain. You can go for the entire loop, or you you can pick and choose shorter routes. All sections are epic! We will NOT be providing shuttles for your epic run/ride, so please plan accordingly.
You do not need to be an SBTS Member to participate in the pre-run, although we do encourage you to join us as a member and a volunteer (especially if you'd like to camp out and have your food and beverages taken care of for the weekend).
We ask that everyone (runners and bikers) wanting aid station support RSVP (in the name field include "name" and the words "pre-run"). Then check in at Lakes Basin Group Campground after 7:00am to get a wrist band, so we can identify you. Also, please bring a friend or family member to help support/look after you. We are not responsible for you making it back. The Round Lake Trail Aid Station will be available until 2pm and The Gray Eagle Lodge Aid Station will be open until 4:30pm. Please plan accordingly!
Click here for a map showing the Lost Sierra pre-run course. Note that station #2 and #3 are 13 miles apart, so pack an extra sandwich and a water filter.
Our trail crew has been getting dirty for more than a decade building and restoring every inch of this racecourse in preparation for our Lost Sierra Endurance Run on September 29th. We're proud to be hosting this event, with the proceeds benefiting our trail maintenance program.
Throughout the weekend, we'll have trail projects happening along Grassy Lake Trail, which departs directly from the Lakes Basin Campground. The type of work needed includes: brushing, rock drain construction and tread armoring. The work sites are easily accessible and there is work to be done for all abilities.
Meeting Location: Lakes Basin Campground. We have reserved the Group Camp for meals and socials. If you plan on camping you will need to grab a site on your own, first come first serve. Please share, as space is limited.
When to meet: some of us will be arriving Friday for bike rides and hikes. On Saturday, September 8th plan on arriving betwen 7:00 and 10:00am. The earlier the better if you plan on breaking off the entire 32 miles.
We provide: breakfast bagels, sack lunches, BBQ and beverages
Please bring: bikes, water, camping gear, layers, day pack & sun protection
More: Help us go green, please bring your own insulated cup, and packable containers for lunches
Space is limited, so please RSVP. Do it!
